Barfleur, Cotentin Peninsula

A sunny winter's day in Barfleur, an ancient fishing port in upper Manche.

From this angle the rock at the entrance to Barfleur harbour looks like a beached whale balancing the Crucifix on its head.

A plaque on the other side of the 'whale' commemorates the place from where William the Conqueror sailed to England in 1066 to become King.
