Lt.Richard D. Taggart Memorial Plaque.

Normandy keeps the memory of Allied heroes who liberated Europe in 1944.

It's not just the big memorials, small towns and villages each have their own story, their own local hero.

We were returning from the beach and stopped for a drink in Longueville, near Granville on the Western coast of Normandy. In the village square, on the wall of the local primary school there was this memorial plaque to an American pilot who gave his life for our freedom.
